Dr. Meize-Grochowski, Regents’ Professor of Nursing, is interested in symptom management in adults. Her most recent research focused on the use of meditation in older adults with postherpetic neuralgia, and she plans to extend this research to other persistent pain conditions. Dr. Meize-Grochowski also has an interest in spirituality, holistic nursing interventions (including healing touch), and quality of life in celiac disease and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
Originally from Farmington, NM, Dr. Meize-Grochowski received her BSN from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and her MSN and PhD in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin. Since 1979, she has been involved in nursing education or higher education administration at UNM. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses, including nursing research, honors, theory, gerontology, patient education, and teaching. Her latest funding (2012-2013) was from the NIH Pain Consortium, as Principal Investigator for a Center of Excellence in Pain Education.
