Bryan Jackson is the Program Coordinator for the Robert Wood Foundation Nursing and Health Policy Collaborative at the University of New Mexico. He comes to us with more than 5 years of administrative experience and began his employment with the University in August 2015 at the College of Nursing working with the consortium NMNEC (New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium). He is a UNM pre-dental senior pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Bryan enjoys spending time outdoors cycling, running, and playing fetch with his Labrador. He also enjoys working with his hands, hobbies include home remodel, building furniture, and home brewing.

She has a master’s degree in Technical Communication and more than 25 years of experience as an editor in the health sciences and biomedical fields. She was executive editor of two national medical publications and has extensive experience writing and editing articles for various journal and book publishers. She is certified as an Editor in the Life Sciences by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences.

Antoinette Sabedra is the Program Specialist for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nursing and Health Policy Collaborative at the University of New Mexico.  She comes to us with more than 10 years of administrative experience and began her employment with the University in August 2010 at Project ECHO as an Administrative Assistant III in the Finance department.  She brings with her skills acquired from working in large corporations, such as Public Service Company of New Mexico, Lockheed Martin, and H & R Block. She has recently begun furthering her education in hopes of receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  Antoinette has also gained a significant amount of experience raising four children and being married for 18 years.  She enjoys spending time with her family and watching her children succeed in school and athletics.

Mr. Boursaw joined the University of New Mexico College of Nursing in 2012 as an Instructor, with prior experience working at UNM’s RWJF Center for Health Policy as a staff statistician. He has expanded his research interests from a purely academic focus on geometric group theory to encompass the fascinating quantitative phenomena that arise at the intersection of statistical methodology and lived experience. He has also served as a statistical mentor with select doctoral students of color in the social sciences and graduate students in the College of Nursing.

Mr. Boursaw received a BS in Math from Michigan Technological University and a MS in Math from University of Minnesota. He is currently pursuing a PhD in mathematics from University of Minnesota.

She is a Senior Fellow of the New Mexico Center for the Advancement for Researcher, Engagement, & Science on Health Disparities (NM CARES HD) and a University of New Mexico Regents’ Lecturer. Dr. Haozous’ research examines health and cancer inequities in American Indian populations in the southwest and nationwide. Dr. Haozous is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar. Dr. Haozous is a member of the Chiricahua Fort Sill Apache Tribe and is from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She received her BA from University of California, Santa Cruz, MSN and PhD from Yale, where her studies focused on oncology nursing and end of life care.

Kim J. Cox, PhD, RN, CNM, FACNM, is a tenured Associate Professor and PhD Program Director at the UNM College of Nursing. She received her BSN (1992), MN (1995), and PhD (2009) degrees at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr. Cox has practiced as a Certified Nurse-Midwife in a variety of settings ranging from homes to tertiary medical centers. Her research interests include vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), perinatal health disparities, rural maternity care access, and healthcare workforce issues.

Dr. Tinkle joined the University of New Mexico College of Nursing as an Associate Professor in 2010 and is the Chair of Research and PhD Studies.  She was at the National Institutes of Health where she served for about a decade as Research Training Director for the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) and as Scientific Review Officer for the Center for Scientific Review.   Her clinical and research background over the past 30 years has been in health promotion in the community, particularly working with women and underserved populations.   Dr. Tinkle has particular interest in genetic nursing scholarship, with specific training at the NINR Summer Genetics Institute (SGI), both as an attendee and as SGI Program Director for 6 years.  She has served in leadership roles on several national nursing initiatives directed at building research skills in genetics among nurse scientists as well as increasing genetic knowledge and skills in nursing education.  Dr. Tinkle is actively involved in the University of New Mexico Clinical and Translational Science Center in the Community Engagement and Research Core and with UNM Comparative Effectiveness Research initiatives.

Dr. Tinkle received her BS from Texas Woman’s University, her MSN from University of Texas Health Center at San Antonio and her PhD from The University of Texas, Austin.

Dr. Tigges joined the University of New Mexico College of Nursing as a Lecturer in 1989 and taught in the FNP and CNM concentrations for 17 years.  Since then, she has held several leadership positions within the College of Nursing including Interim Senior Associate Dean for Research.  She is currently the Director of Evaluation for the NIH-funded UNM Clinical and Translational Science Center and teaches in the PhD program.  Her major areas of interest and research are adolescent risk behaviors and psychosocial determinants of health behavior, recruitment strategies for community-based studies, and evaluation of research centers.

She received her BSN from Pennsylvania State University, MSN from Yale University as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and PhD in Public Health and Social Psychology from Columbia University.

Dr. Jennifer Averill has been involved in researching rural health issues for over 20 years, bringing to the forefront such issues as the unique consideration of health care access challenges older adults face, community partnership models for describing, analyzing, and addressing community level health disparities for older adults; and transcultural considerations for older adults living in remote regions near the international border.

Her early nursing career was clinically based in critical care, cardiac care, oncology, public and home health, migrant health, school health and hospice. She was previously a clinical nursing instructor in community, migrant and institutional settings (since the mid 1980’s in NM and CO). She joined the tenure track faculty of UNM as an Assistant Professor in 2000. She received her BSN and MSN in Nursing from the University of New Mexico in 1985 and 1988, respectively. She received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Colorado in 1997, with emphasis on ethnographic methods in a remote rural community, studying the health care experiences of retired migrant farm workers. She is now a senior fellow on the NM CARES Health Disparities grant in the School of Medicine.

Dr. Lobo joined the faculty at UNM in 2003 and is a pediatric clinical specialist. She has previously been on faculties of nursing at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; Case Western Reserve University; The Ohio State University; and the Medical University of South Carolina. She serves as the nursing faculty member of the Pediatric Pulmonary Center. Her research has focused on children and families’ adaptation to health and illness. She is currently examining the transition from pediatric to adult care in adolescents and young adults with asthma in New Mexico. Dr. Lobo has also been involved in promoting early intervention for infants and families, including consulting on the evaluation of early intervention programs. She has studied feeding behaviors in children with cardiac defects, failure to thrive, and colic. She is widely published, with multiple peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and other publications to her credit. She has been active in promoting the study of family health.

Dr. Lobo is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the Western Academy of Nurses. She was named one of the 100 Transformers of Nursing and Health Care by The Ohio State University College of Nursing in honor of its 100th anniversary. Dr. Lobo is currently the President of the Western Institute of Nursing.

Dr. Lobo has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and a Master of Nursing degree in Maternal Child Health and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science degree from the University of Washington, Seattle.
